Murphy NC 28906 - A growing community with small town charm
If you're in western North Carolina or eastern Tennessee, one of the things you should do is to ride the Incline Railway up the side of Lookout Mountain.
From the description of the following video...
Take a ride on the steepest passenger railway in the world - Lookout Mountain's Incline Railway.
Known as "America's Most Amazing Mile," The Incline's trolley-style cars climb through the natural beauty surrounding historic Lookout Mountain at a breathtaking 72.7% grade -- straight up!
Chattanooga, Tennessee is about a two-hour drive from Murphy. It's an easy, and very scenic drive. You'll go through the Ocoee River Gorge and drive along a beautiful lake for part of your journey.
Lookout Mountain is located in Chattanooga. About half-way up the mountain is Ruby Falls and Rock City is at the top. See their websites for more information about things you might want to see and do.
To get to Chattanooga, take the four-lane west out of Murphy (Hwy 64) to Cleveland, TN, and then take I-75 to Chattanooga. Follow the signs -- there will be plenty of them.
While you're there, you may want to see Rock City and Ruby Falls, too.

Permalink Reply by John Dilbeck on January 18, 2012 at 5:44pm I was just doing some more reading, and according to the Incline Railway website, the Incline Railway is closed for maintenance until February 2012. (The Ruby Falls website says the incline is closed until March 2012)
From The Incline Railway site:
The Lookout Mountain Incline Railway will be closed beginning November 15, 2011 for seasonal repairs and reopening in February 2012 based on anticipated construction schedules. This timeline is subject to change.
So, be sure to call ahead and verify before going to visit and ride the incline.
