Murphy NC 28906 - A growing community with small town charm

Good evening, Tipper.

This discussion is in honor of your Grannyisms page on your Blind Pig & The Acorn blog.

I didn't see a way to post a photo or link to one on your blog, so I started this discussion here.

This photo was taken in 1954 or 1955, when I was two or three years old. My Granny's name was Mary Manervy Carney Dilbeck and she had traveled from her home in Benton, Tennessee to visit us for awhile in College Park, Georgia (just south of Atlanta).

Even though she didn't have a woodstove to cook this cake at our house, it was still delicious.

She's the one who beat all of us to the top when we hiked up Stone Mountain a few days later.

This is a photo of my Grandpa and Granny. His name was William Batis Dilbeck, but he died years before I was born, so I never knew him.

In case you're interested, Mom wrote about them and you can read about it on my Dilbecks of Dawson County page.

All the best,

JD

Loved the photos-and I jumped over to read what your Mother wrote-very interesting-neat pictures there too. Makes me wish I knew more about my ancestors.

I'm glad you added your 'grannyism' to my page-hopefully I can keep collecting them for a long time to come.
Good afternoon, Tipper.

Mom did genealogical research on our family for over 30 years, most of it before the Internet and it was a lot of work. When she started, she and Pop knew some about their immediate families but not much about great-grandparents or earlier.

I've tried to keep some of the most important that I know about and put it on the web, but when she died last year most of our family history died with her. Now, there's nobody left from her generation to talk to.

I still have thousands of pages she printed out to go through, and I'm trying to keep the most important ones, but much of it will be lost.

I love your Grannyisms page. I'm sure people will keep contributing to it.

All the best,

JD
