Good afternoon, Tipper.

I really am interested in your planting by the signs test. Maybe there'll be a big difference and some of you will have bumper crops and others will have huge bumper crops! (grin)

We`d be interested in that. In particular, Carolina Jasmin, tomato, black berry, straw berry, and blue berry would be my favorite.
Debbie`s list is much longer, and includes more flowers than food!

Do you want to buy flowers, plants, and herbs from a local grower and help The Learning Center at the same time?

Wonderful memories I'm glad you shared them. I love to browse through the seed catalogs during cold winter days-it helps push the cold away to know it won't be long before I'll be walking through the garden checking on the plants.

Good morning,

It's a cold morning in the mountains and I was just now thinking about gardening.

What?

Well, actually more than gardening. I was thinking that this is the type of morning that I remember Mom and Pop sitting close to the heater, sipping coffee, and looking through all the gardening and nursery catalogs - planning for what they would grow next spring.

I think Mom must have subscribed to at least 40 or 50 different seed and nursery catalogs and both of them loved looking at the pictures and talking about the different varieties and what they liked.

Pop always liked the older varieties and his favorite tomato was a beefsteak. Mom disagreed, but they would enjoy talking about it.

I'm not a gardener and I did not inherit their green thumbs, but I can close my eyes and picture them right now, sitting next to the heater and dreaming about what they would grow next year, when the weather turned warm and all the little green things started to poke their leaves up from the ground.

Just thought I'd share with you.

All the best,

JD

Good evening, Ron.

I know what you mean about weeding. It sounds like y'all did well for the first year. Good luck on that fall planting.
Comment by G. Ron Langer on August 14, 2009 at 4:48pm
T-o-o-o busy! The weeding gets to be a real chore. Our squash was very prolific! It was coming out our ears! Tomatoes were Ok but not great. Corn was about a 7 on a 1-10 scale. Since we're organic we had our share of bugs. Perhaps next year we will do better. Btw, we are doing a fall planting so we'll see how that turns out.
