New Pictures

This isn't exactly in Murphy, but it's close enough for a day trip so I thought I'd put it on here. This is Amicalola Falls in Dawsonville, GA. More info about the falls can be found here. North Georgia Website - Amicalola Falls

Oh how right you are! The day after Charley was beautiful except for the destruction. I'm glad you, your husband and your house made it through okay. Ours did also, thank goodness, but the fear never went away.

You'll miss the Folk School Festival but you can still get in on the Apple Festival in Ellijay when you come out this way later this month.

Hi Kimberly......I know all about being in a hurricane. Isabelle slamned right in to Elizabeth City and I was in our house alone the whole night becuse my husband's employ would not allow anyone to leave. It was frightening. but in the morning the sun was out and it was beautiful ................... except for all the damages around town. Our house was fine except for a window blown upstairs. My husband and I are coming to Murphy the 17th thru the 24th to look at houses and check out the area. Hope to meet some of you while we are there.

Thanks Carol and JD for the praises on my sunrise picture! {warm fuzzies}.

What JD says is true, Carol, the storms here aren't so bad. I used to enjoy watching storms until I experienced Hurricane Charley in Florida which is what prompted us to move to Murphy. Since then I actually have a fear of thunderstorms (how odd, I know). Yes, we do get an occasional nasty thunder storm here but it's not often that they frighten me. Truly, what I have noticed, is when Chattanooga predicts nasty storms, they seem to hit the NC state line and go AROUND us in Cherokee County. It's amusing actually!

And oh boy, those cooler temps are here now!

Kind regards,
Kimberly

Good morning, Carol.

I, too, would not like any storm that knocked a tree down on my house!

All the best,

JD

Good morning John................ actually, I do like a good thunderstorm as long as I'm under cover and no lightening strikes my cover. Last year a bad storm came thru Gatlinburg and knocked down a tree on our house up on the mountain. We had to get a new section of roof and chop up the tree. Still waiting to get to Murphy.

Good morning, Carol.

You sound like you really don't like storms (grin).

We get occasional bad storms, mostly in the spring, but I don't think it's anything like the storms I've been through in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. I've seen three or four inches of hail on the ground out there, but I've never seen anything like that around here.

We get our fair share of thunderstorms, but i kind of like them, so I don't know if they would bother you, or not. When a thunderstorm approaches, that's my signal to unplug the electronics, pull out a good book, and read for awhile. Sometimes I like to go out on the front porch and watch the storm.

I'm trying to think of the last really bad storm, and the only ones that come to mind are the remnants of some hurricanes that came through here a few years ago. Even those weren't all that bad, and certainly nothing like they would be on the coast.

The last real storm that sticks in my mind was the Blizzard of 1993, and it was pretty bad, with much more snow than we normally get, but that was a long time ago.

Cool weather's coming this way, Carol. I hope you get to enjoy it, soon.

All the best,

JD

OMG! The worst storms just plowed thru us out here on the Outer Banks. Winds up to 58 mph and hail and lightening. A supposed cold front moved thru but it's only down to 69*. I'm sorry.......I like it cooler than that. When's the last really bad storm to hit Murphy and what is it like in those mountains when it does storm. Would I be really scared?

That's a beautiful photo, Kimberly. One more reason why I love living in the mountains!
