Sounds like you have a lot in common with us! We are following a similar plan! We hope to get back in the fall to see the colors.......uh, I mean...... to work some more on the driveway clearing. We`ll likely meet with the contractor for an estimate on the septic also.
We should be getting blue prints coming soon from the architect.
We don`t come just to work though, we try to play and explore a little each time too.

We came up for Memorial Day weekend, brought our daughter and my husband's mom up to see Murphy and our new future home. We already can't wait to come back. Looks like we'll be doing some prep work to get our septic permit on our next trip, on the weekend of the 4th. Hope to meet you all someday.

I had a wonderful time meeting all four of you. Thanks for the castle-warming gifts. I need to post a photo of them. After you left, I kicked myself for not taking any photos or videos!

It sounds like you made progress with setting up your shed and staking out the septic field.

Once you've left blood on your land, you know it's yours.

Looking forward to seeing you again the next time you're up here.

All the best,

JD

PS. Love the bread and butter pickles! Haven't tried the dills yet, but soon.

Well, we spent Memorial Day weekend putting a small shed up for tools. Got to meet John D. in person, (a REAL treat!), and we made a small clearing to lay out the size & shape of the future cabin. We flagged off the area where the septic field will go, so the contractors can find it. Got scratched pretty bad by a thorny vine, and bit by a tick....the adventure has BEGUN!

Mike & I will be moving to the area as soon as we have sold our small farm here in South Africa. We are looking forward to the day. We initially were going to the coastal area, but, Mike has always wanted to be near the mountains as he loves the snow and has only seen it a few times, because we do not have snow where we are here, so the Murphy area seemed like the logical choice.

Carol, any bites on your properties recently? We have been in Murphy for almost a month now and are loving everything about our cabin and this area. It is just beautiful!

Well, as Dena and John know Gary and I will be moving to Murphy the minute our properties sell here on the east coast and the property in Gatlinburg. We were there in October of '09 and the place is absolutely gorgeous and the people are great. The thing that struck us the most is how clean the area is. We looked at several chalets and picked out three. Hopefully, one of the three will still be ont he market when it's time to move. We are so excited and anxious to get out there. We too keep up with things in Murphy by following the "Scout" and keeping intouch with "Murphy Connections".

It will be a while before we actually get a cabin built. We have driveways to clear, septic to go in, well to drill first. But we SO look forward to our visits in the mean time.
Any other "Murphy Dreamers" who aren`t ready to move just yet can keep up with the local happenings like we do.... get yourself a subscription to the Cherokee Scout! It`s exciting when it comes in the mail, and we get to "watch" our new community from afar!
Between this website, and the Scout, it`s the next best thing to being there!

Good afternoon, Donna.

You just summed up some of the things I love about living in Murphy! I know you're looking forward to your move and I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

All the best,

JD

What will we be looking for when we move to the Murphy area?
Fewer rushed people dashing in and out of traffic, fewer shopping areas and malls, not having to be put on a wait list when attempting to eat out...these are just a few of the "big city" situations that we won't have to face in Murphy. It will be joyous to live on a mountain in a cabin with some privacy, to listen to the birds sing, to sit on the deck with a cup of coffee and just take in the beauty of the area and the sounds of nature. We hope hear of much less crime on the streets. It is AWFUL here in Charlotte!
