Well, as Dena and John know Gary and I will be moving to Murphy the minute our properties sell here on the east coast and the property in Gatlinburg. We were there in October of '09 and the place is absolutely gorgeous and the people are great. The thing that struck us the most is how clean the area is. We looked at several chalets and picked out three. Hopefully, one of the three will still be ont he market when it's time to move. We are so excited and anxious to get out there. We too keep up with things in Murphy by following the "Scout" and keeping intouch with "Murphy Connections".

It will be a while before we actually get a cabin built. We have driveways to clear, septic to go in, well to drill first. But we SO look forward to our visits in the mean time.
Any other "Murphy Dreamers" who aren`t ready to move just yet can keep up with the local happenings like we do.... get yourself a subscription to the Cherokee Scout! It`s exciting when it comes in the mail, and we get to "watch" our new community from afar!
Between this website, and the Scout, it`s the next best thing to being there!

What will we be looking for when we move to the Murphy area?
Fewer rushed people dashing in and out of traffic, fewer shopping areas and malls, not having to be put on a wait list when attempting to eat out...these are just a few of the "big city" situations that we won't have to face in Murphy. It will be joyous to live on a mountain in a cabin with some privacy, to listen to the birds sing, to sit on the deck with a cup of coffee and just take in the beauty of the area and the sounds of nature. We hope hear of much less crime on the streets. It is AWFUL here in Charlotte!

Good morning,

I know what you mean. I've lived here for about 25 years, and the longer I live here the better I like the area and the people.

All the best,

JD

We searched for 2 years in an area from Atlanta to Greensboro, up to Ashville, then over to Chattanooga. That box kept getting smaller and smaller with each visit. Our last trip up that way, we actually planned to hop from town to town. But we stayed the whole week in Murphy, and LOVED it! We can`t wait to get back up there again!

Good morning Jim and Debbie.

I agree with everything you said, here.

I'm a simple guy who enjoys a low-key lifestyle. I love living in Murphy. You've listed a great selection of likes and dislikes.

It's great meeting you here.

All the best,

JD

We are simple, old fashioned folks. We plan to build a cabin for vacations & retirement.
What are we looking for when we get there?

A significant LACK of sirens, helicopters, traffic, horror stories on the 6 o` clock news, insufferable heat, hurricanes, scowls and snarls from the people we meet.

We`re looking forward to the noise from the creek. Deer in the back yard. Friendly faces on the people we meet. The brilliant colors of the autumn leaves. Browsing the shops in town, and booths at Decker`s. More great food at Brothers and Happy Garden. And MUCH more!

For those of us who are lucky enough to live in Murphy, I'd like to pose a quick question.

What do you like best about living here?

For those of you who are still dreaming about moving to Murphy, what are you looking for when you get here?

All the best,

JD

Way back in the early 1970s, I was living in Georgia and dreaming about moving to Murphy.

I fell in love with this area the first time I visited the John C. Campbell Folk School.

When I would get a few days, or even a few hours, I'd drive up here in my old pickup, with a canoe tied on top. I loved hiking, camping, canoeing, and fishing in this area and was a frequent visitor long before I was able to move here.

I even took a detour to Phoenix, AZ for a few years before moving out of the desert and back to the land of green trees and water in the rivers.

There have been times when it was hard to earn a living, but I've never regretted moving here.

This is an area of scenic splendor, natural resources, and friendly people. It's a good place to live.

It may not be for everyone, but I'm happy I found my way to Murphy.

Act on your dream!
