Good morning, Kevon.

We're almost neighbors. I live just off of Sandy Gap Road (turn right off of 294 at Howard Bait and Tackle).

People who are trying to sell me something call me Mr. Dilbeck. People who know me call me John. People who know my parents call me Johnny. My best friends call me JD. Call me whatever you like, just don't call me late for dinner! (grin)

I love the Folk School. I'm really looking forward to Fall Festival this weekend.

They're having a free concert at the Folk School this evening. Gayle de la Kruse will be performing in the Keith House at 7:00 or 7:30. She sings an eclectic mix and always includes some Irish music.

Thanks for the "connection" John. Do you prefer John or J.D.? Anyway, we are out 294. Candy Mountain Area.....

The Folk School is absolutely AWESOME!!!! They have a class for just about anything you can think of doing to pass a winter's day... or even day-dream about next spring. I'm sure I will be 'very friendly' with the folks at the school.

There are a lot of musicians in the area. You might call the folk school and ask for David Brose. He could probably put you in touch with other dulcimer players and musicians in the area. I think he knows just about everyone.

He's been the folklorist at the Folk School for 19 years and is quite an accomplished musician.

Which area of Murphy do you live in?

Let me first say that Hubby and I are NEW to the area. We are really excited about playing our dulcimers, though I am really a beginner on the Hammered Dulcimer. My hubby is much more proficient on his Mountain Dulcimer. Being new to the area and new to the local music scene, we are wondereing if there are any groups that meet locally to jam together? Like I said we are NOT professional by ANY stretch of the imagination. We just want to meet other enthusiasts and make some "beautiful" music....

Eric, you may also want to get in touch with Tipper. She's from a musical family and knows musicians in the area. She's a member of this group, too.

Good morning, Eric.

You may want to get in touch with David Brose. He works at the Folk School and hosts a couple of local radio shows.

Another person you may want to contact is Scott Stambaugh. He's an active musician in the area and is a member at Facebook. (Tell him you heard about him at Murphy Connections - grin).

Maybe that will get you started.

Both of these guys know lots of the local musicians.

All the best,

JD

Good afternoon, fellow music lovers.

I don't have time to post about all the musicians who are performing in Murphy and nearby, but you are welcome to share these events and performances with our Murphy Connections members.

Here in the Music and Musicians group, just click the "Start a Discussion" link and post the details. Alternatively, you can post it in the general Forum.

You can also enter it as an event on the Events page, if you want.

The only real difference is that discussions in this group or the general Forum are archived for future reference and the Events postings are deleted the day after the event, automatically.

Who's pickin' and who's grinnin' in or near Murphy?

All the best,

JD
