Murphy NC 28906 - A growing community with small town charm

In an article in the Cherokee Scout, editor Robert Horne writes: Husband, wife team are Citizens of Year.

The article says, in part...

In his role as an investigator with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Roger Williams sees the worst of humanity while trying to catch sexual predators who target children. On Thursday night, the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce and Duke Power Co. honored Williams and his wife Cathy for the work they do outside the sheriff’s office.

The Williamses were named winners of the Duke Power Citizenship Award at the chamber’s annual dinner. The award was combined with the chamber’s citizen of the year award. “I was flabbergasted,” Williams said. “I’ve never had anything like that happen to us before. I was totally amazed ... I really was.”

Ms. Williams was unable to attend the ceremony.

“She was floored, too,” Williams said of his wife’s reaction to the award.

The article continues with more information about all the things the couple has done to help others in Murphy and the surrounding area.

I want to thank them for all they do to coordinate and bring Angel Food Ministries to Murphy which distributes good food at a low price every month at the Murphy First United Methodist Church. That's one of the things they have done that I have personal experience with.
