Murphy, NC River Walk - New Section

Murphy, NC River Walk - New Section

The River Walk was opened in the fall of 2003 with the dedication of its first phase at Konohete Park. Many people have worked hard to make this trail possible for all of us to use.

Edwin Manchester volunteered to be the River Walk project manager and has done an outstanding job of attracting and managing a diverse group of volunteers who constructed the trail, provided signage, and continue to maintain it.

Volunteer actions and tax-deductible donations have made this River Walk possible and more help is needed to complete the final section that will proceed along the Hiwassee River all the way back to the historic L&N Railroad depot.

You can help by volunteering, or sending your River Walk contribution to the project team, payable to:

Good evening.

I was reading in the Cherokee Scout this week about a medium-sized, non-agressive black bear being seen along this section of the River Walk.

To me, that just adds a bit more character to it.

All the best,

JD

Good morning, Carol.

I agree. I love the River Walk, and it's going to be even better when it goes all the way from Konehete Park on the east side of town to the old L&N Railroad Depot on the west side of town.

I think this part of the trail is still under construction. The two previous sections are very nice and I'm pretty sure they have planted flowers and such along the trail, but don't hold me to that.

I think you'll enjoy it when you get here.

All the best,

JD

This is such a wonderful thing for the community to pull together to make another beautiful peice of Murphy. Since I don't live in Murphy I guess I will have to make a donation to the cause. In looking at the pics maybe in time we could get more flowering trees and bushes panted along the hiking trail. ........... carol chapman
