Murphy NC 28906 - A growing community with small town charm
Hitchcock Coit had this pyramid erected in honor of her grandfather, ARS Hunter. It was built around 1930. His full name was Archibald Russel Spence Hunter.
It is located just north of 5th Street, west of the Hiwassee River.
To get there, (from downtown Murphy or the L&N Depot), go west on Hiwassee Street and cross the Hiwassee River. Take the first turn to the right on Lakeside Street, just before you get to the new fire station. Lakeside Street parallels the river. Just past the fire station, turn left on Hunter Street and go one block. Turn right on 5th Street (I think that's the name. If you turn left, it's Cherokee Street.) Go a short one block and turn left and go up the hill. (I think this is still 5th Street.)
About half-way up the hill, on your right, you'll see a driveway into a field. There is a chain across the driveway. This photograph is the view of the pyramid from the road.
The official Town of Murphy website has some more information about the pyramid. I'll link to the page in the comments, below.

Easy enough... it just moved to : http://www.townofmurphync.com/surrounding-area/points-of-interest/m...
Thanks for the heads-up about the link. I found the current page and adjusted the link.
Looks like your link is broken down there... JD... not sure who Troy Forsyth is, but perhaps you can let them know... (?)
I had a chance to look at the pyramid close up for a few minutes, before being persuaded to leave. I think it should be open to the public... also the rock house below on that street, but that's just my opinion. (wouldn't that rock house make a nice gift shop/historian info center or something?) Anyway, I was impressed with how tall the pyramid is... if you can imagine standing close, where the iron rod gate surrounding it comes to about mid thigh, if I remember correctly... very interesting... and I recall this was a location where Mr. Hunter had good trading relations with the Cherokee for years before the removal. Good to preserve a more 'peaceful' space. :)
