Murphy Circus

The local circus was in town for a couple of days last week. While we didn't actually go into the circus this year, we did get to enjoy the outside activities that came with it. My son rode a pony for the first time, and got to see a camel up close. It's always a fun time and you can get tickets for the kids to get in free. It was a nice day which made it that much more enjoyable. If you haven't been, I encourage you to go to the "big top" next year!See More

Sorry for the wrong name, Frank. No problem on the advice...that's my job! Also, a side comment. If you do any remodeling, consider doing something unique. It doesn't have to be a big thing, but something that makes your home stand out.…

Hi Carol, Thanks for the info... My fiance likes the idea of doing some of the prep work, we hope to use that space for storage and maybe laundry... So doing some of the work looks like the way to go! Thanks for the advice! Frank

Hi John, While a second bathroom is desirable when selling a house, you don't need to focus on finishing the basement at this time. If you want to do something in preparation for selling in a couple of years, you could have the basement framed so a prospective buyer can get an idea of how the basement will "lay out." Some buyers have difficulty envisioning what's not there. Am assuming your home is 2 bedrooms? It should be at least 2 bedrooms to sell it. If not, then finishing the basement…See More

It's unfortunate that one market has such an impact on our community. But, with a lot of people employed in construction in one way or another, and our main market being from FL where it's been hit so hard, we're really feeling the…

Real estate has been going up-and-down this past summer. We're still seeing some activity, and expect to until January when it typically slows down until May. I am excited for next summer as I do believe the market will pick up and be better…

The Moving Wall

The Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall has been in Murphy the past 4 days. Although I've seen the Vietnam Memorial in DC, my son and I went to the wall on Friday afternoon. I was very impressed with the professionalism, respect, and patriotism of the whole event. My son asked me what the wall was for and I managed to tell him it's meaning, while holding back tears. Although I don't personally know anyone who died in the war, my dad and both grandfathers served in various wars. My thoughts went to the…See More

Good afternoon, Carol. Thanks for telling us about your experiences at the Fall Festival. I was really looking forward to going this year, but my car broke down and left me stranded at home. So, I'll look forward to going next year. I always…

JCC Fall Festival '09

Managed to get to the Fall Festival this year! So glad we got there at 10:00...there was a lot of traffic already! Wouldn't be surprised if JCC Folk School had a record breaking attendance this year! We left at 12:30 and the line of cars waiting to get in was LLLLLOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGGGG. Anyways, great stuff this year! I saw some of the usual vendors, which is always a pleasure, but also got to see some new things. One woman, from Blairsville, makes jewelry from recycled materials such as…See More

Green Resources

Just wanted to let anyone who's interested in building a green home or adding green features to their existing home, I recently achieved the Green Designation from the National Association of Realtors. There's a wealth of information available on the internet. And, I am more than happy to direct you towards green resources and green builders/certifiers. There's inexpensive ways to improve your homes energy efficiency and renewables. You can also visit my website for some interesting articles.

Rib Country is in Murphy, but have clients who love Popies on 19/129 in Blairsville, GA. It's not in town, but on the way to town from Murphy on the left hand side. Let me know what you think if you end up there. I've been once and enjoyed…
