I was looking at your page today and noticed that you had been talking hiking with Paralee. I don't know if she saw and answered your question, but the US Forest Service Ranger station is located just south of the fourlane cattywhompus from McDonalds.
If you're going east on the fourlane, turn right at the crossroads where McDonalds and the First Baptist Church are. It will take you past the bank and the Tuesday flea market. The road curves sharply to the left and not far past that, you'll see the road to the ranger station on the left.
They have maps and there are some friendly people there who may be able to answer some of your questions.
To state it another way, when you're driving east on the fourlane and go past McDonald's, if you'll look to the right before you get to Hiwassee River, you'll see the ranger station down in that little valley. They have a trail and a helicopter landing pad that is easy to spot.
Here's the web page for the Tusquitee Ranger District, with headquarters in Murphy.

If you and your family would like to join me and Wilderness Adventures on a day hike we would love to have you. We will have an event coming up in the next few weeks.
Wilderness Adventures is all about connecting children with the outdoors. Hope to see you on the trail some day soon.
Pura Vida-life is good
