Vacation

This isn't really a discussion, just a few comments! We just returned home from our 2nd wonderful vacation in the Murphy area! And we love it even more! The weather was so-so, but that did not stop us from taking lots of trips. We drove the Cherohala Skyway - absolutely magnificent! We took lots of pics but none of them do it justice. We drove to Elijay GA and enjoyed a wondeful afternoon just wandering the antique stores and then another day we went to Helen GA - very quaint and interesting.…See More

Hey John! We haven't been on for a few weeks - lots of activity around here lately. Only 2 more weeks until we will be in Murphy! We cannot wait to get there - been a hard year and we are ready for some peace and quiet. Have a question - where…

I'm going to agree, Popies, between Blairsville & Murphy on 19-129, is THE BEST! And they give good sized portions, too.

I enjoyed eating at Herb's Pit Cooked Barbecue a few years ago. I'm not sure, but I think they closed. Can anyone confirm that? I certainly don't want to be spreading false information. ShoeBooties Cafe has great Baby Back Ribs, but…

Rib Country is in Murphy, but have clients who love Popies on 19/129 in Blairsville, GA. It's not in town, but on the way to town from Murphy on the left hand side. Let me know what you think if you end up there. I've been once and enjoyed…

BBQ

Have a question for anyone! Where is the BEST place to have BBQ in or around Murphy?

Thank you, Jennifer, for the info about the flea markets at Ranger - we will check those out when we come in October. I have a question for you - do you have any family in Indiana? We have long time friends with the name Smoot - just curious! Greg…

Having only been to Murphy the one time, we don't have alot of info on things to do there. I have to say our favorite thing is sitting on the deck, it faces the East, of the cabin we stay in and watching the sunrise over the mountains- how…

Good morning, Sheryl. While there is nothing wrong with hunt and peck typing, it can be slow and frustrating. I've been a busy boy this week and I don't think I made it to Murphy Connections even one time, yesterday. That's very…

Usually I, Sheryl, will answer! Greg is a hunt and pecker typist so he leaves the typing to me! We have kind of watched this website for a couple of months now. Just stumbled onto it while looking at info for the area. We don't do facebook or…

Good morning, Sheryl & Greg,

It's really easy to get to the River Walk. There are many points of access.

If you go to Konehete Park, there are a number of trails that lead from the parking areas over to the river, and, as far as I know, all of them connect to the River Walk.

On the other side of the road from the Park, you'll see the new health club and swimming pool. You can park anywhere in that area and walk to the river to get to the River Walk. Next to the tennis courts, you'll see a walking bridge over the river. The River Walk extends to the right on the other side of the river at that point. Walking to your right will take you back towards the north side of Murphy and all the way to the L&N Railroad depot. (I haven't walked that part of the trail, yet.)

I don't know how to get to the River Walk from the depot. That's one of the things I want to do when I get my car running again.

There's also a parking lot for the River Walk on McClelland Street at the foot of the hill near the Cherokee County Health Center. If you walk to the left, you'll be going towards the depot. Walk to the right to go towards Konehete Park.

I'm looking forward to Irons In The Fire on Sunday, October 5, at the Folk School. This is the time of year I start humming one of their earlier songs, "When the frost kills the kudzu..."

Maybe I'll see you there. I'll be one of the biggest people there with a gray beard and red-white-and blue suspenders. I'm hard to miss.

Hope you have a great trip getting here. Be safe.

I've been a busy boy this week and I don't think I made it to Murphy Connections even one time, yesterday. That's very unusual for me. So, I'm just now seeing your reply. Don't think I was ignoring you. (grin)

It's nice to hear that you've been visiting us for awhile and then decided to join us.

Currently, we seem to be going through the doldrums without all the usual interactions in our community, but it's summertime and there's lots of things to do that don't include playing on a computer. Who knows, maybe some of our members are visiting those flea markets you'd like to know about.

I'm sure it will pick back up, soon.

All the best,

JD

Good evening.

Can you tell me if I'm talking to Sheryl or Greg?

I've been visiting Murphy for 40 years, or more, and have lived in this area for about 25 and I continue to be impressed with the friendliness of the people I meet. Not everyone is friendly, but the great majority are.

We're still a new online community with only a few dozen members, but we're slowly growing. I'm always happy to welcome a new member and try to help when I can.

The stats show that a lot more people are reading our site than joining in, so that's encouraging, too.

I hope someone who knows more about it than I do responds to your flea market question. If you don't get an answer in a couple of weeks, try responding to the discussion and asking again. A different group of people may see it.

Thanks for joining in.

Good morning, Sheryl and Greg.

Welcome to our friendly little online community for Murphy, NC.

I understand how you can love this area. I do, too.

I don't know much about other flea markets, so, hopefully, someone will chime in on your discussion and give you some other ideas.

If there is anything I can do to help you get more from this site, please let me know.

All the best,

JD
