Yesterday, even though I was not feeling very good, I spent some time sitting on the porch of Castle Dragon and enjoyed being alive and away from the noise and congestion of the cities where I spent a lot of my younger years.
I love living in the country. I enjoy waking up to the sounds of birds singing and Fred (my grandson's rooster) crowing to welcome the new day. It's much better than the sounds of traffic, blowing horns, car alarms, and sirens!
The mountains, rivers, lakes, and other scenic beauty that surrounds us is a real bonus. Even more important than the scenery is the wonderful group of family and friends who are part of my life.
A couple of days ago, I had to run some errands (grocery shopping, carrying off trash, and so forth) and I decided I wanted to do a little sightseeing. Of course, I decided that while I was already away from the castle and didn't have my cameras with me.
I decided to drive over and visit Hiwassee Dam. It has been quite a long time since I've been there and I enjoyed the drive. I didn't feel like getting out and doing any walking, but I enjoyed looking at all I could see from the convenience of my car.
Once or twice, someone in a hurry came rushing up behind me, but I soon found a place to pull over and let them by so I could continue enjoying a leisurely drive.
The trees are beautiful this time of the year, even if they do like to shower us with pollen. There are thousands of shades of green and I believe they are as beautiful now as they are in the fall, even though the colors are different.
Spring brings a whole new cycle of life with it. Flowers are blooming, babies are all around us, and everything is growing and flourishing (as I hope my tomato plantation will do!)
(By the way, am I the only one who would deign to call two potted tomato plants a plantation? grin)
If I only had one day to live, I don't think I could find a better way to spend it than to visit friends and family, enjoy the scenery, and appreciate the laid-back lifestyle that can be lived here by anyone who chooses to slow down and focus on what's really important in their lives.
Thirty years ago, when I was a young computer consultant living and working in Atlanta, I dreamed of living in these mountains. For the last 25 years, that dream has been a reality. Some dreams really do come true.
Act on your dream!
