Welcome to Murphy, Donna! I see you enjoy scrapbooking.... I'm just getting myself started on that. There's a great little shop downtown in "the Shoppes of Murphy" for scrapbooking supplies and such. Check it out.
Enjoy your new endeavors here in Murphy.
Over the years we have spent a lot of vacation time on the east coast from Charleston to Hilton Head, but like you, mountains are our favorite. I don't miss the snow in Michigan or I guess I've just gotten used to not seeing too much of it over the years. Two years ago at this time we were in Michigan for my niece's wedding and saw lots of snow. In fact while we were in Murphy in January we saw snow and ice and could barely get up the mountains to look at cabins...our realtor is wonderful...and was as determined as we were to get up one mountain in particular. That is the cabin we actually bought even though we had to climb up the last quarter mile on foot. It was fun!
We are from Northern Va. and have lived here in Elizabeth City, NC for the pst 11 years. It's on the east coast and at one time I loved it here but the waterfront has gotten old. And since we love the mountains so much we decided to check out Murphy. We were there in october and felt it is the place for us. We looked at several houses and the minute our property here sells we will be on our way. Another thing I miss out here is snow. We just don't get any here and I miss not having snow for X-mas and cold weather for Thanksgiving. With you being originally from Michigan you must be used to snow.

Where did you move from? We just fell inlove with the area and the friends we have already made.................especially Dena and John and our realtor. We are so looking forward to settling in Murphy.

Congratulations on your move to Murphy! We look forward to meeting you in person.
We're planning to do a Murphy Connections get-together when the weather warms up, maybe in April. We'll announce it here when we know more details.
You might do better by starting a discussion in the Forum about this topic, because more people will see it than a comment on your own page.
I'm no expert about the water situation and I know our spring dried up for awhile year before last (2008), but we've had a lot of rain since then and I think the water table has recovered a great deal over the last year.
I don't know anyone whose well is drying up now, but I know it was a problem in the past.
However, as I said, I'm not really in touch with others on this issue and you may learn more by starting a discussion on the topic.
I have been reading about Murphy on the Internet and the water situation and talk of wells drying up leaves me feeling concerned. How would you comment?
