Murphy NC 28906 - A growing community with small town charm

Murphy, NC River Walk Work Day Aug. 26, 2010

In 2002, Heritage Partners, a non-profit organization in Murphy, NC, conceived the idea of building a river walk that went along the bank of Valley River starting at Konohete Park and going downstream to Lake Hiwassee. It then would continue upstream along Hiwassee River to the other side of town where it would terminate at the L&N Depot.

That original vision has been realized thanks to the help of many volunteers, government bodies, other organizations, and generous donors.

On Thursday, August 26, 2010, there was a work day and many volunteers donated their time and effort to clean, rake, landscape, and improve the River Walk. Other dedicated volunteers built a bridge over a low-lying area that floods when Lake Hiwassee is full.

These people have worked hard to build a trail that all of us enjoy.
